The natural gas line connections have been completed and will be tested this week. On March 23 and 24, we will be purging the air from the newly installed natural gas lines along University Heights. During this time, there will be periods where the scent of natural gas will be noticeable. This is a natural part of the process.
On Friday, March 24, there will be a temporary natural gas outage in Zeis Hall and Rhoades Robinson Hall, as we switch the natural gas service for these buildings to the newly installed natural gas main along University Heights. The occupants of these buildings have been notified of the hours of the natural gas interruption.
PSNC will also install patches in the roadway, resulting in localized temporary single lane closures that should not significantly impact traffic flow. This work will start on Founders Drive near the end of this week, and continue up and around University Heights into next week. Parking in front of Highsmith Union (with the exception of the accessible spaces) will be unavailable Monday, March 27. The sidewalk in front of Highsmith Union is schedule to reopen next week on or around March 30 as the existing main line is capped. Road closures and gas line testing will not affect scheduled weekend activities.
Please note that these timelines may change, and updates will be communicated via email and at facilities.unca.edu/construction.
If you have questions regarding this sidewalk closure or other campus construction projects please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or contact Campus Operations at 828-251-6564.
